One longtime SF planning commissioner may be out as another keeps her seat

A continued shakeup of the San Francisco Planning Commission could mean one longtime member will be replaced while another will remain, according to a Monday announcement.

Hisashi Sugaya, known as a vocal and progressive commissioner, was not re-nominated by Board of Supervisors President David Chiu despite efforts by outside groups.

Instead, Dennis Richards was nominated to the seat.

Richards headed Duboce Triangle Neighborhood Association during a time when the area was rezoned and received a historical designation. Richards also served on the board of Dolores Street Community Services…

In May, an online petition was started in support of Sugaya and Moore to put pressure on Chiu to re-nominate both commissioners, who are seen as independent voices…
