A Housing Is A Human Right investigation has found that the real estate industry, including the California Apartment Association and notorious landlord Russell Flynn, have shelled out $153,816 to California State Senator Scott Wiener’s 2020 re-election campaign, according to state records. Wiener is the key sponsor of SB 50, the controversial housing bill that activists say will exacerbate gentrification crises in California cities.

While middle- and working-class communities will be harmed, SB 50 will generate billions in profits for the real estate industry — luxury-housing developers, lobbyists, real estate attorneys, brokers, and architects.

In addition, 12 of Wiener’s real estate contributors gave a total of $9.9 million to stop Proposition 10, the ballot measure that sought to repeal statewide restrictions on rent control. The initiative was defeated in November 2018… (more)

Wiener will need rich friends in high places to keep going in spite of the financial support. His popularity is falling rapidly among his constituents. San Francisco Bay reeling from gentrification brought on by his policies. Not one of the YIMBY candidates won in SF district elections. Voters figured out that up-zoning is evicting tenants and foreclosing on small property owners. The only benefactors are the ones who find joy and riches in the misery of others. Many people are selling out and leaving the area to get away from the rat race and insanity that envelopes us.
